How many hours must I have and how long do I have to get them?

You need 60 hours of continuing education every three years.

How do I know which ethics course I need to take and when I need to take it?

Farm Managers must take the Standards and Ethics (M-12) every nine years and Appraisers must take the ASMFRA Code of Ethics (A-112) every nine years. Only ASFMRA Ethics courses will satisfy this requirement.

CANDIDATE AND ASSOCIATE, AS WELL AS ACCREDITED AND PROFESSIONAL, ARE REQURED TO TAKE THE APPROPRIATE ETHICS COURSES EVERY NINE YEARS.

How do I know when I last took the 7 Hour National USPAP Course?

How do I report the education I have taken?

Every year when you are sent your membership dues invoice, there is a green education log sheet enclosed. This form must be filled out and sent back to the national office.

The log is also available on the web site at www.asfmra.org under the Members Only section.

I took an ASMFRA Course, do you automatically credit it to my CEUs?

No, we do not automatically credit the course to your CEUs. We ask that you please fill out the Continuing Education Log and send it back into us. We also do not automatically credit the CEUs to you if you instructed an offering. The purpose of this is to eliminate confusion and duplicate entries from submissions from the member and chapters

Do only ASFMRA courses count toward my CEU credits?

No. We will accept courses from any other appraisal organization, and anything required for your state license. We will also accept the ASFMRA Chapter meetings and tours that you attend. You can contact the National office or your chapter to see how many hours a chapter meeting or tour has been approved for. We will also accept broker education that you have taken from other organizations and through your state.

When and how often should I send in the Continuing Education Log?

We would prefer that you to send it into us by the end of every calendar year. However, you must ensure that you send it in to us every three years so you receive credit for the education you have taken.

A continuing education cycle runs for three years and is on a calendar year. For example, a continuing education cycle will run from January 1, 2005 – December 31, 2007. At the end of 2007, we will look and see if the member has a total of 60 hours of continuing education. If you have 60 hours, you will receive a Certificate of Continuing Education, and you will be moved to your new continuing education cycle, in which your new cycle would run from January 1, 2008 to December 31, 2010.

What is the Certificate of Continuing Education?

This is a certificate that each member receives if they are compliant in obtaining their 60 hours of Continuing Education.

Top

How do I know what my Continuing Education Cycle is and what if I don’t have 60 hours by the end of my cycle?

You may call Deanna Ilk at the national office and she can let you know your current cycle or if you are not in compliance, you will receive a letter stating that you are not in compliance with your continuing education cycle and how many hours you need to complete your cycle.

Top

Do I need to send in any copies of certificates from the offerings that I have taken?

No, you do not need to send in copies of certificates. Just fill out the continuing education log and send it to us. It is important to remember that submitted education logs are subject to an audit by the ASFMRA. Therefore, ensure you keep all copies of certificates and supporting documentation from any education offering that you have taken.

What about the Course Transcript that I receive with my membership dues? Can I just send that back to you instead of the green CEU Log Sheet?

No, we prefer that you to fill out the CEU Log sheet. You may attach the course transcript to the log if you would like or if you have another form from another organization, you may also submit that.
